On 11 December, approximately 50 students participated in 5RB’s virtual Media Law Insight Evening. The session was led by Aidan Eardley KC and began with a “whistlestop tour” of the law of defamation from Joint Head of Chambers Jane Phillips, followed by introductions to harassment and privacy from Hope Williams and Katya Pereira. The students then observed a mock hearing of an application for a privacy injunction presided over by Jonathan Barnes KC, with Hannah Gilliland appearing for the applicant and Luke Browne appearing for the respondent. The evening ended with a Q&A, which covered topics ranging from the various stages of training for the Bar to a day in the life of a barrister.
Attendees of the evening were given the opportunity to apply for a work experience programme that 5RB looks forward to hosting for up to five BVL students in the new year.
