On Tuesday, 1 October, 5RB welcomed Katya Pereira and Hector Penny, who joined 5RB as new members of Chambers after successfully completing their Pupillage, during which they both experienced the full range of chambers’ work, including libel (defendant and claimant), privacy, harassment, data protection, freedom of information, and reporting restrictions.
Meet our new tenants:
Katya Pereira:
Katya Pereira graduated with First-Class Honours in History of Art from the University of Edinburgh and went on to receive her MA in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art. After a period of working in the art world, she studied the Graduate Diploma in Law at City University, in which she obtained a Distinction. Having been awarded the Lord Denning Scholarship from Lincoln’s Inn, Katya completed the Bar Course at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy. During pupillage, Katya was supervised by Kate Wilson, Jonathan Scherbel-Ball, Gervase de Wilde and Chloe Strong and undertook placements at the BBC and The Times.
Hector Penny:
Hector joins 5RB as a tenant in October 2024, having completed his pupillage under the supervision of Jacob Dean, Richard Munden, Greg Callus and Felicity McMahon. Before pupillage, Hector practised as a solicitor, doing two years in corporate/M&A work in a city firm and then for a year in a specialist media law firm. Hector studied classics at Oxford University for his undergraduate degree, graduating with a first. He passed the GDL and LPC with distinction and later took an LLM at the LSE, obtaining a distinction and coming top in his year.
Our joint Heads of Chambers, Adrienne Page KC and Jane Phillips, commented: “We are delighted to be welcoming Katya and Hector as tenants of 5RB, following their very strong performances during pupillage. We look forward to seeing them build stellar specialist practices in media and communications law and contributing to the collegiality of these chambers.”
Katya and Hector accept instructions across all media and communications law areas. For more information on our new members, don’t hesitate to contact the 5RB clerks’ team here.
Watch the second video of the 5RB Pupillage series to introduce, this time a little more personally, Katya Pereira and Hector Penny, who became full-time barristers after completing their pupillage in October 2024. This video provides a better understanding of who they are, showcases their backgrounds and stories, and gives their impressions of starting as tenants at 5RB and how their previous experiences led them to media law.
