Statement in open court in Davies v BBC

Steve Davies, former chauffeur to HRH Diana Princess of Wales, has obtained substantial compensation and an apology from the BBC in relation to allegations, which the BBC has accepted were serious and unfounded, that Mr Davies had leaked confidential information about the Princess.

The false claims were made by the journalist Martin Bashir in September 1995 to the Princess and her brother, Earl Spencer, in a bid to secure Mr Bashir’s infamous BBC Panorama interview.

5RB’s William Bennett KC and Chloe Strong acted for Mr Davies, instructed by Persephone Bridgman Baker and Caitlin Harris of Carter Ruck. A joint statement in open court was read today, available below.
